Types of Retreats
Wy'East Zen Center schedules various types of retreats throughout the year.
One Day Silent Meditation Retreats (Zazenkai)
WEZC schedules up to 2 one day silent retreats each year. All are welcome, but if you are new to meditation practice please contact one of our teachers before signing up. Sample schedule here.
Longer Silent Meditation Retreats (Sesshins)
Periodically Zen Buddhists gather for sesshin, or 5-10 day silent meditation retreats. During sesshin participants follow a rigorous schedule from dawn until dusk that includes 5-10 hours a day of seated meditation (and sometimes more). WEZC co-hosts an annual sesshin with Bright Way Zen in August. Our next sesshin is Sept 20-24, 2023. You can also attend sesshin locally at Dharma Rain Zen Center, Zen Center of Portland, or Great Vow Zen Monastery. Learn more about sesshin here.
Term Student Retreats
If you are looking for a way to intensify your spiritual practice for a period of time and foster community connections at Wy'east Zen Center, you may wish to consider participating in the Term Student program. We offer this annually.
