Types of Retreats

Wy'East Zen Center schedules various types of retreats throughout the year.

  • One Day Silent Meditation Retreats (Zazenkai)

WEZC schedules up to 2 one day silent retreats each year.  All are welcome, but if you are new to meditation practice please contact one of our teachers before signing up. Sample schedule here.

  • Longer Silent Meditation Retreats (Sesshins)

Periodically Zen Buddhists gather for sesshin, or 5-10 day silent meditation retreats. During sesshin participants follow a rigorous schedule from dawn until dusk that includes 5-10 hours a day of seated meditation (and sometimes more). WEZC co-hosts an annual sesshin with Bright Way Zen in August.  Our next sesshin is Sept 20-24, 2023.   You can also attend sesshin locally at Dharma Rain Zen CenterZen Center of Portland, or Great Vow Zen Monastery. Learn more about sesshin here.

  • Term Student Retreats

If you are looking for a way to intensify your spiritual practice for a period of time and foster community connections at Wy'east Zen Center, you may wish to consider participating in the Term Student program.   We offer this annually.
